Gisèle Sapiro is Professor of Sociology at the EHESS and Senior Researcher at CNRS. She has coedited The Routledge Handbook of the History and Sociology of Ideas (2023) and is author of The Sociology of Literature (Stanford UP, 2023). She was awarded a Humboldt-Forschungspreis in 2023.

She is a pioneer in the field of literary sociology, combining in-depth historical studies with innovative methodological approaches. Working in the tradition of Pierre Bourdieu, she has made significant contributions to questions surrounding the connections between literature, law, and politics, and the social conditions underlying the international dissemination of literary and scholarly texts.

Gisèle Sapiro is a Visiting Fellow in the context of the CAS Research Focus Scales in November 2024 and in autumn 2025.
